Ottavia’s current research is exploring regional nutrient management, with a particular focus on the use of phosphorus in Austria. The work is based on the Material Flow Analysis methodology and it aims at developing a quasi-dynamic model to analyze trends in the past and future scenarios. Special attention is given to data uncertainty and error propagation. The research is also centred on evaluation methods and MFA-derived indicators.
Ottavia obtained a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Parma, in Italy. The thesis topic was “Application of watershed modelling and GIS to the estimation of the nutrient loading in a shallow, semi-enclosed marine system of Northern Aegean, Eastern Mediterranean”. Following graduation, she completed a Master of Water Science, Technology and Management at the Centre for Research and Technological Development, University of Salamanca, Spain and a specialised course on Renewable Energy Consultancy, at the EOI Business School, Madrid, Spain. She then worked for international technological and consulting companies, in the field of geothermal energy and bioenergy. She actively participated in research activities, addressed to apply anaerobic digestion to industrial wastes and to develop innovative energy crops.
